What is our mission?
What have we achieved so far?
The Eco-Committee is a unique activity at BISC as it is open to students of all ages. This year we have had students from Year 1 all the way up to Year 13 working together to raise environmental awareness and to make the school a greener place.
Our main focus has been on reducing the amount of waste generated in the school. For one week we gathered all the paper thrown away by teachers and students. When all this paper was put into a stack, the stack was nearly as tall as one of our Year 2 committee members! However, we have not wasted this paper. It has been put to good use as we have used it to make a display to highlight the issue of waste paper. Check out the Tree of Trash outside the Senior School Office.
We have also had the opportunity to recycle the waste paper to make new paper. Some of our members have met with Mr. O’Grady to discuss more ideas for reducing waste and energy use at BISC and we hope to see some of our ideas put into practice at the new school.
This has been a busy year for us but rest assured we’ll be back next year to carry on with our mission to save the planet!
